Was it right to drop the bomb on Hiroshima?I personally do not think it was necessary to drop the bomb on Hiroshima. I think the Americans only did it to discourage the Russian army from becoming their rival after the war. The Japanese were losing the war with America and would have surrendered if the Americans had kept the Japanese in their own country and stopped their ships from bringing in supplies for the Japanese army. This would have decreased the morale of the Japanese soldiers considerably.
Instead of choosing to drop the atom bomb the Americans could have shown the Japanese leaders a recording of a testing of the atom bomb in the desert. This could have made the Japanese try to negotiate with the Americans and their demands. If they surrendered then the next atom bomb could be used as leverage against the Russians. This could have avoided the Cold War and created a stronger alliance between the Ukraine and America.
There was no real need to drop the bomb on the city while so many people were in the streets. Up to 140,000 innocent people were killed in the blast and radiation afterwards. Hundreds of these were cadets and regular soldiers in the army. Some of the people in the city survived and have given their own stories for a documentary made about Hiroshima.
Because of the decision made by America to drop the bomb on Hiroshima has made the area rife with radiation. This has made the area unsuitable to live in since the dropping of the bomb in 1945. Now in 2007, the area is fuuly repopulated and the radiation is cleared.
