Mr H

Best GCSE History Course to do?

At Stanley we do the Schools History Project (SHP) syllabus:

Crime, Punishment and Protest 1500-2007

and
American West 1845-1895 (which replaced Germany 1918-45)
plus courseworks like Vietnam, Jack the Ripper and formerly Terrorism.

Up to 2004 we used to do Modern World History syllabus:
USA: A Divided Union 1941-80
Vietnam War
Germany 1918-45
Superpower Relations (Cold War) OR Arab-Israeli Conflict in Palestine

Some schools do a different SHP syllabus:
Medicine and Public Health through time
with
American West OR Germany OR Elizabeth I or the Industrial Revolution

Some schools do the Welsh GCSE:
Germany 1918-1945
Crime and Punishment c.1530-present
Sport, Leisure and Tourism 1900-present

A small number do British Social and Economic History:
Agricultural Revolution - Depth Study
Transport and Communications - Depth Study
The Home Front - Source Based
Chartism - Source Based

A fair few schools do different combinations of the Modern World exam:
War to End all Wars 1914-19
USA: Depression and the New Deal 1929-41
International Relations 1900-1949
Britain 1906-1950
The World War: 1938-45
The Road to War (Europe 1870-1914)
Nationalism and Independence in India (c.1900-1949)
The Emergence of Modern China (1911-1976)
The Rise and Fall of The Communist State (The Soviet Union 1928-1991)
The Russian Revolution 1910-1924
The End of Apartheid in South Africa 1982-94
Conflict in Vietnam 1963-1975
Conflict and the Quest for Peace in the Middle East (1948-1992)

There are loads of courseworks to choose:

The question is: What would you like to do (for the Year 9s) and for those of you in Y10 and Y11 - would you have preferred to do something else?
Nicholas

hmm i think they are all good in there own way. I would say the WW1 and 2 courses are the best, simply because thats the area of history i am most interested in. I suppose it depends on the indivisual.
