D-Day / the Battle of Normandy
In My opinion, the turning point of world war two would have to be The battle of Normandy, or as it is now known as, D-Day.
One of the main reasons for my thoughts on this is because D-Day was essentially THE most important event in World War Two, and I think that this is what saved the allies from Hitler’s invasion, allowing them to gain a foothold in france and push on to liberate the country, with other countries doing the same.
Another reason for this, is that after D-Day, the allies could go liberating villages and towns in France to gain support from the French resistance, and during the actual landings, the French resistance helped the U.S Airborne regiment, giving them directions and even killing and German or two to save their lives, since many of the paratroopers got caught up in trees and church steeple’s and spires, and since it took some time to get loose of the parachute, they were easily hosed down by the German gunfire.
One reason for the effectiveness of the normandy invasion is that the allies targeted multiple beaches: juno, gold, utah, sword and the more commenly known, omaha, using these beaches to mount a combined assault on the german hold in normandy, aiming to destroy the german fortifications, which included the bunkers and the anti aircraft guns, the anti infantry guns and the artilary gun
Don't over-estimate the importance of the war in the west compared to the war in the east. The vast majority of German resources were spent fighing the USSR. In fact, 90% of all German casualties were killed or wounded (or taken prisoner) in the Eastern Front.
Do I detect a slight Norman bias?

sir, all you asked us to do was write a report on what we though was the most important event in world war two, and since i chose the d-day landings in normandy you cannot reprimand me for writing on what the western allies did when you asked us for ONE event in world war two, not two, not three, but one event _________________ (''\^.^/'')
