The film Saving Private Ryan is about the true story of a group of American soldiers from the 2nd Ranger Battalion that were sent to find Private James Francis Ryan and get back to the rest of the army. The men sent after Private Ryan were under the command of Capt John H. Miller.

These men were: Technical Sergeant Michael Horvath, a professional soldier who had lived through Africa and Sicily and was very loyal to the Captain.
PFC Richard Reiben, a BAR (Browning assault rifle) gunner from Brooklyn who thought trying to find Ryan was a waste of time.
Private Daniel Jackson, a very religious sniper who also thought the mission was a waste of military resources.
Private Stanley Mellish, a Jewish rifleman who thought the mission was FUBAR (F***ed up beyond all recognition).
PFC Adrian Caparzo, a rifleman from New York under the command of Capt Miller
Technician 4th Grade Irwin Wade, a medic chosen to accompany Capt Miller and his men.
Cpl Timothy E. Upham, the cartographer and interpreter sent with Capt Miller. He only shot his rifle during training.
PFC James Francis Ryan is the man they are searching for. He was a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division.

The battle situations in the film are quite accurate to what would have happened during WW2. They are helpful in helping us understand what life would have been like for the soldiers. They are shown no mercy by the Germans in most of the battles and show slight mercy for the Germans.

I would personally recommend this film to any student studying history. My favorite character is Private Daniel Jackson. He is not afraid to speak his mind about the mission to find Private Ryan. He is patient when he is sniping Germans and obeys the captain.

If I was to rate it I would give it a 10/10. It is an extremely accurate film and portrays the lives of the American soldiers in the war.
