Study Source D
Source D - From a history textbook published in 1997.
The modern police force is an example of rapid change. In the 1870s, the constable patrolled his beat on foot. Police records were made and kept locally. The constable's means of communication was a whistle to call for help. At the end of the twentieth century, police records are kept on a computer. The police national computer system holds records of fingerprints, vehicles, etc. Most police constables now do their jobs from patrol cars. As crime has become more complicated, so has crime prevention and detection.
3. Choose ONE of the themes below. Explain its impact on crime and law enforcement. Use Source D and your own knowledge in your answer. (10)

The motor car has had a huge effect on both how criminals and the police do there jobs. Car crime has quickly become a problem for the police, 40% of all crimes commited in the UK are car related. These car crimes vary from vandalism to theft of the car itself. The car has also revolutionised the way that criminals get away from a crime. Where as a foot pursuit could only sevaral minitues a car chase can left for sevaral hours. The police have used the motor car to help make their jobs easier too. Many police constables use their patrol cars now thanks to the rise in telecommunications a PC could go an entire day without needing to go back to the station. There are also now specialist units setup to pervent car crimes and speical patrol cars that have been modified for high speed pursuits.

Computers and telecommunications are massive help to police because in the 1870, the police had to patrol on foot but now they have patrol cars they communication was a whistle to call for help But that's no good if you are very far away now they have Better Comunicetion. And Because the is so much crime now the computer is very helpful to Police officer when they check for a name if that person has a criminal record then the computer would let them know that's why Police Records are kept on a computer Because it's easier than having lots a files it would be much harder to Deal with crime.

Gohar Computers and telecommunication has had a huge impact on the police.
The article (Source D) was taken from a History textbook in 1997, It has been nearly a decade since that book was published. Since 1997 the forensic science knowledge and computer knowledge became bigger. now days if a criminal broke into a house and touched anything in the household, he could get caught because he has left a bit of DNA. Storing that data became esier when large computer hard-drives were introduced, this means instead of clicking through files/folders to find information about someone with a computer the information can be displayed with just a few mouse clicks. But also someone who is an expert with computers can commit crimes that not even the police can sometimes trace. So in conclusion policing has change significantly over the years

Kwasi There are many factors that have changed that have affected both crime and law enforcement. One factor that has had a great impact is the motor car.
The motor car has helped prevent a lot of crime. Because police now drive, they can cover larger amount of area at one time. However, when the police used to 'walk the beat' they were able to go to the backstreets and ally-ways and catch hidden criminals. The motor car has also helped police chase after criminals without getting tired.
On the other hand, the motor car has created new kinds of crime and has helped criminals execute their crimes more efficiently. Before the invention of the car, the were no such crimes as grand theft auto, hit and run, not having car insurance, driving without a liscence, etc.
Because of the motor car both crime and law enforcement has solved and developed with both positive and negative effects.
